The Vandalia Technical Center team hosted a raffle and bake sale for Girls on the Run on March 8, 2013.  A Starbucks gift basket and a ‘date night’ gift pack were raffled and Toi Cupcakes, Todd Pastries, Ashley Brownies and others provided homemade pastries, which were quickly sold. The team donated $600 to the Immaculate Conception School in Dayton, Ohio for their efforts to organize two 15 member Girls on the Run teams for the 2013 fall term. The cost of a Girls on the Run team is $1,500 so Vandalia’s contribution will help six girls participate. This activity further strengthens Inteva's core value to care for the world and our communities. The team at Vandalia looks forward to learning the results of the 2013 Girls on the Run program!

Girls on the Run is a nationwide organization with a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.  The girls participate in an after-school program for 10-12 weeks with a 24-lesson curriculum, which encourages positive emotional, social, mental and physical development.  This program helps girls make healthy decisions and avoid risky adolescent behaviors.  Physical activity is a part of the program to inspire an appreciation of fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetime of health. The final event is a Girls on the Run 5K event, which is celebratory, non-competitive and culminates the experience of the curriculum.  Crossing the finish line is a defining moment when the girls realize that even the seemingly impossible is possible and is a tangible understanding of the confidence built with hard work and a framework for setting and achieving life goals.
