Inteva Troy Cares: PC&L Hosts Sock Drive, Roofs Team Volunteers at Local Food Bank
As part of the Inteva Troy Cares program, two teams planned and executed charitable activities in March 2017. Troy Cares is an employee effort to support the local community in any way theindividual team or group chooses. The Troy PC&L team hosted a sock drive, collecting socks for the needy. The Troy Roofs team volunteered at Gleaners, a local food bank.
For one week in March 2017, the PC&L team collected socks for infants, children and adults; any size and color were accepted. Sock collection boxes were placed throughout the building. In total, the team collected 404 pairs of socks to be donated to a non-profit organization in Detroit. The Troy Roofs team plans a volunteer activity each quarter and in March 2017, the team sorted and organized food donations at Gleaners. Twelve volunteers from the Roofs team participated and it was a happy coincidence that GM was also volunteering at Gleaners during the same time! Together, the Inteva and GM volunteer teams were able to pack 6,034 pounds of food, enough to impact the lives of 5,129 people!“What is surprising to us is how many families in southeast Michigan go hungry and without necessary daily nutrition,” said Sheleena Totharam, Design Supervisor, Roofs Product Line. “What is not surprising is how much good food goes to waste on a daily basis. Gleaners, with the help of volunteers, has found a way to rescue this wasted food and channel it toward solving a very basic human problem – hunger! Gleaners provides food to soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and other agencies through southeast Michigan. What’s not to love about that?”
