TROY, Mich., May 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Inteva Products today announced the student scholarship winners for its Connect the Sky Roof Systems design competition at Lawrence Technological University (LTU) awarding the Innovation grand prize to Jeeho Cha, a junior, for his Scenic OLED (organic light-emitting diode) Sunroof Experience concept and the Insight award to Matt Scarchilli, a freshman for his Solar OLED Sunroof Experience concept. Both students are enrolled in LTU's College of Architecture and Design participating in the Transportation Design & Industrial Design program led by Professor Keith Nagara.
Inteva's scholarship competition invited design students to explore "experience attributes" of Inteva's Full Panoramic Roof System portfolio from an interior vehicle perspective. Students were challenged to explore design concepts incorporating such attributes as freedom, light, space, personality, and energy.
Cha developed an innovative approach that grants vehicle occupants the power, within the vehicle, to adjust the outside environment perception so that the interior view from the panoramic glass roof reflects not the actual environment, but a desired one. At any time, in any weather, the driver has the ability to adjust the inside visual settings of their vehicle's panoramic sunroof to project images ranging from a snowy sky to an underwater adventure.
Scarchilli's design uses touch-sensitive OLED screen tiles. During the day, the driver and passengers are able to control the amount of light entering the vehicle by touching desired tiles. At night-time, the users have the option to touch particular tiles that will illuminate for personal convenience.
"The Inteva team was impressed with the creativity shown by all the students and in this respect the decision process was difficult," said Gerard Roose, Inteva's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Jeeho's idea grants the driver enormous freedom to adjust interior experience to either embrace the actual exterior world or project a virtual scenario. Matt's concept provides all vehicle passengers the flexibility to control the amount of light within their individual space for a customized environment reflective of each passenger's desire. My congratulations to Jeeho and Matt for designing concepts that were above and beyond our expectations."
